Your Library Card
Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.
Who can get a card
Residents of Polk, Yamhill and Marion Counties may apply for a library card at the Independence Public Library. If you live elsewhere, you may purchase an out of area card.
How to Get Your Card
To receive a card you will need to visit the library to complete an application and provide verification of your current address. We accept:

Driver’s License or Oregon ID with current Address.

or: Other picture ID plus

Utility bill or Rent receipt.
- Postmarked envelope with correct name and address.
If you are under the age of sixteen, a parent or guardian must sign your application. At this time, online applications are not accepted.
Borrowing Limits
If you live within the City limits, or within the service area of another Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service (CCRLS) library, the maximum number of items that can be checked out at one time is 50. Some library collections have lower limits.
If you live within the CCRLS service area, but outside of the service area of a member library, you may apply for a basic card that will allow you to check out one item at a time with no charge. A full service card option is available for a fee. Please contact the library for current fees.
A free C.A.R.E card is available for children under the age of fifteen who live within CCRLS boundaries, but outside of the service area of a member library. This card allows children to check out up to 25 items from the children's area.
If you live outside of the Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service boundaries, you may purchase a card. Please contact the library for current fees.
Placing Holds
Library cardholders may place holds on many of the items owned by Independence or other CCRLS member libraries. New items and items from some special collections may not accept holds from other libraries. Basic cardholders are limited to one hold. C.A.R.E. cards are limited to three holds. Place a hold by visiting the library catalog or by calling the library at (503) 838-1811.
Renewing Your Borrowed Items
Many items may be renewed online through the library catalog by selecting the My Account/Renew link. You may also call the automated renewal number at (503) 589-7740, or contact the library at (503) 838-1811. Some items may not be eligible for renewal.
Library Fines
The fines for all Independence Public Library materials are $.25 per day per item. Items borrowed for you from other libraries may accrue fines at a different rate.
